This is the most updated copy of the Flight Training Manual. Students will each get a hard copy, which is your guide to all your training.
For those looking to improve their skills, we highly recommend that you work on the different levels, and challenge the flight tests. Just let us know, and we'll set up a test for you.

Hey Dave...I thought we decided that the letters for the club were to be SRCF....the student manual is now calling it SFRC (Shearwater flyers R/C). I'm thinking we need a ver 1.2

Marc made the changes, but right now, we're just trying to get all the info out to people. Bit of a mad rush, lots of documents have to be done, and posted for all. We'll sort out the fine print when we get a chance.

any chance we can propose amendments? I really feel that including use of the rudder in basic turns be taught. Being able to perform a flat turn with rudder only, and also being able to use the rudder for a co-ordinated turn is just as important. Once someone masters a trainer, the next plane may need it to turn properly, ie warbirds & a lot of aerobatic planes.
From my experience, it's a basic skill a lot of flyers lack, and the sooner they learn, the easier it will be.

also, unless I missed it, learning to land in a crosswind should be in there too. Not all fields are lucky enough to have multiple runways, and it's also a good skill I often see lacking. On top of that, it directly relates to rudder control

Whiner. We'll go over it at some point soon, and make any amendments. Focus short term is getting all these documents published and out there, i.e. minutes, budget, constitution, etc. Having said that, if someone wants to be the Senior Instructor, and take on ownership of the training documents, it's not a ton of work, and would shed a bit of workload from myself.

There are lots of usefull tips in our RC University section including a cross wind section ;-)

The section is all well and good, but putting things into practice, especially if we're going to follow the manual to the "T". It was just my 2cents worth is all. Personally I try to always teach these two things as early on as possible.

We certainly should have a sit down with all the instructors, soon as we can, and go over the document. It's ours, and as long as we're following the MAAC Guidelines, we can modify as necessary. Agree, the University section doesn't replace ensuring we teach things. Remember, a lot of students will have zero knowledge of basic aerodynamics, and environmental effects. I'm still seeing people doing downwind landings and take-offs, and not just in calm winds.
