Thought I post A couple of pics of my latest build and say thanks to Dave R for the 1/8 ply scraps and pieces that went to good use. It's a 120" ws cessna build from scratch with handmade fiberglass cowl ,handmade landing gear, and vacume formed windshield and back window. I hope for around 55-60cc for in it.

Super impressive, and I can't wait to see it fly! If you need any more materials, let me know. Also, I'm going to hit up the 3 big hobby shops in Dayton next week, including stocking up on balsa. A 10 pack of 4 in wide 3/32"by 24"long sheets, $10! I'm personally budgeting about $150 just for balsa! You're moving fast on the build, I'll be hard pressed to finish off my 1/3 scale cub for spring, so we can do some formation flying giant scale style. Way to go Dennis, you are an accomplished builder!

That cowl looks great. How did you make a form for the cowl. I am guessing that the cowl is made of fiber glass.

Very nice Dennis. I'm always envious of the kits you come up with.
She should fly like an angel

Wow, that seems like a good deal on balsa sheeting Dave! These big planes takes up quite a bit. I shaped the cowl from foam then covered with aluminum foil and glassed with one 6oz layer and two more 3/4 oz layers with epoxy Turned out pretty good!

I never thought of the aluminum foil when I made the cowl for my Hurricane. It sure makes for a smoother surface on both sides of the fiberglass. If you know anybody in the medical field, try to get a 3cc and a 5cc syringe. These are great to have so you can make small amounts of epoxy with the same 5 to 1 ratio. I have gone as small as 1/2cc to 2.5cc's for small jobs. I clean out the syringes with methyl hydrate for use again. I cut the outside locking ring on the syringe so only the small tube that a needle would fit in. I do not use any needles. When you cut off the locking part, you can stick the syringe into the fluid and see that you are not going too deep into the fluid. This makes for an easier clean up. This little info also proves that I am cheap!

Good tip John. I always look for the cheapest way to do things , and I hate making too big of a batch and seeing if flash and be wasted.

I'm super impressed. We've got a real decent percentage of builders in our club, which is rare. Gotta keep encouraging that!

Not much done on this lately . I'm not going to rush this one , should start sheeting fuse and wings soon and then glassing , and pic away at the inside details also wire the whole thing for lights and beacons.

Time is money but building right take's time.....we're not all machines like Dave
Dennis - take your time and build it right the first time - saves time on reconstruction later ;-)

I've slowed down a lot in my old age, and we have enough flying aircraft now, that I can take my time. But, do hope to get two more gliders into the fleet in the next week or so, plus the 1/3rd scale L-4 by the end of the month. Pica Deulist is getting close as well.

Thanks guys. Going to be a while yet before it's at the field.
John M - planes are like a bad addiction for me!

You see what happens when you put your mind to doing a build! Hide the remote, limit your FB time, and you too will have a fleet! lol

Yeah...
I've got my cub repairs almost all complete. Just need to pin the hinges and add the hinge tape. I figured I must have got some flutter somehow...
I've even worked on my cowl and dashboard. Pictures to follow.
The Piper is almost ready to go also. Just need to tighten the covering. The batts are all charged and ready to go.
