I've had a Hangar 9 Corsair that I've been trying to maiden for the past month or so but engine issues kept it on the ground.
This was a new Saito FS 80 GK with a not so new muffler. No matter what adjustments we did it would always stall or cut out out at mid throttle - with Richard and Dennis' help, we were able to get it to 3/4 throttle before it stalled out. Low throttle not an issue
Finally figured out the problem
The break through came when I was refuelling the tank on the bench, I noticed how hard it was filling it up near the top. When I disconnected the line from the muffler you heard a WHOOSH, essentially the air pressure difference equalizing. When I checked the muffler fuel nipple with a T pin, it would not go in.
The muffler nipple was blocked solid with no pressurised air going back to the tank. This also caused the carb fuel line to empty back into the tank every time the engine stopped as it was essentially sucking the fuel out of the tank with no back pressure going back in.
Cleaned it out, reinstalled engine on bench and she ran like a Saito should.
Finally!!!!
PS: Hopefully will be able to maiden it in Shearwater this Sunday as Sat I intend to be in Windsor for their event.

Nice!
What was the blockage due to?
Weather is not looking so good this weekend. Jenn and I are heading to New Minas on Sat AM so Sunday will be my only day out.

Glad you figured it out, sometimes the bench is the place to sort out engine woes, for sure.
