Folks,
I have approached Sandy McInnis, who will be attending the Annual Zone Meeting in Moncton this Saturday, to ask him to present our proposal to host the Great Atlantic Fun Fly at Shearwater next summer. I have also asked him to secure our "historical" third weeknd in July date for our annual event (whatever we decide it will be).
The idea of having the Great Hobbies sponsored, Great Atlantic Fun Fly (GAFF) hosted by several of the local clubs at Shearwater in 2016 was born following our successful joint fun fly this past summer. We are looking for buy-in from the Regional Director and the regional clubs before we pursue it any further.
Sandy is looking for proxy votes from our club members (SRCF and HEFA), so that should the proposal come to a vote at the AZM, that our wishes will be communicated.
Please respond here with your endorsement (or not) of such an event to take place in Shearwater in July 2016 so that I can pass this along to Sandy.
Thanks!

Not to be a downer, but points to consider. I'm retiring, and aren't you as well Vic? That leaves us with Jean-Guy, and maybe Kevin. We need 3 Reg Force Military as a minimum to be on the exec. We won't have that as it stands. Also, I know Marc said he wanted to take a break, and enjoy some flying. A lot of key players will be absent next year, and we've got nothing going on between Shearwater and Halifax that seems to attract potential new members. First, think you need to see if there will be a Shearwater R/C Club next year, and then see if there will be support for a major event. I'd love to see something like this go, but wondering if it's even possible given the membership issues.

I too don't want to be a downer, the same as Dave, but I am the # 1 Warrant Officer to be posted off the Wing next APS the only thing that may keep me here is my hearing loss and a six month T-Cat. Dave did forget about Paul Quinn but that still only leaves two Military if I'm posted or retire. I would love to see the Great Atlantic Fun Fly here at Shearwater, but reality is we need a minimum of three military Executives to keep the Club alive. 1st Priority is recruiting.

Good points guys.
Still, I would like to hold out hope that the club will continue to exist, so I'm being the optimist for now. If things go south, then the event will just have to be cancelled before any committments are made.

There is another possibility Vic, that I brought up to Marc, talk to him, I'm away rest of the week, but he'll fill you in on the details. If he remembers, he is old.

Hi guys,
We are into the third week of November, and this is the month that MAAC requests info on future events...IF, you wish that info to be published in the January 2016 issue of Model Aviation.
Also to have that info published the Club must have their MAAC registration fee for 2016 paid.
Obviously before paying that registration fee, the Club should know if it will exist in 2016.
Do you see a theme for this post?
Just saying... that we should have some answers within the next 10 days, if we plan to proceed with another "joint venture fun fly".
thanks, Bill F. HEFA President

I believe Vic is working with PSP on several issues. Our main challenge for next year is lack of military membership in our club. This is a short term challenge and that was also identified as a long term challenge.
Clearly hosting this event would require HEAVY endorsement and SUPPORT from all local clubs including AVON, ASRCM and others

I'll get an update from Vic this weekend at the Indoor session.
It may be that we will skip a local 2016 fun fly while assessing if there is real support for a larger event.
After reading the minutes of the recent AZM, it would appear that Clubs are satisfied with the status quo when it comes to setting event dates which means the free for all will continue.

Gents,
In answer to your questions, Bill, the first hurtle - the continued existance of the Shearwater club - has been eliminated. A more complete definition of a Regular member has been found, so we now are assured of a club executive for 2016. Therefore, SRCF will continue to exist next year.
Secondly, I have already submitted our "event" to MAAC for the third weekend of July 2016. I have tentatively called it the SRCF/HEFA Combined Fun Fly. If we decide that this will be the GAFF, then we can change that later. At least we will have secured our prefered date.
Or will have it secured once we can register the club, that is. Regis e-mailed me yesterday to say thanks for the early submission of our event, but said it cannot be approved until MAAC gets the cub registration process fixed on their website and we are able to register the club. Reg will notify me when this has happened so that I can go ahead and register.
I'll let you know when that happens.
The next step is to start communication with the regional clubs to see if we can count on their support for a GAFF event.

Thank Vic, for both the update and the effort you have put forth; I'm really pleased that SRCF will continue to grow. As you know we had a positive reception from the membership at the HEFA Annual meeting on November 5th with regard to a bigger and better Fun Fly in 2016.
So now, with this additional news, we can start to talk it up at field events throughout the coming months, whether they be indoor or outdoor events..!
I'll see you Saturday, for more discussion, at the Indoor event.

Due to a general lack of support or interest in hosting a regional event, this has been postponed indefinitely.
