I went a visited the Spektrum site for Dave last week to help him download some setups and noticed that there was a firmware update for my DX9. Today I went back to the site and downloaded the firmware update to the SD card (came with the radio) and followed the steps to update my radio. My radio would not boot up and run the update. I tried twice. I them reformatted the SD card, after taking my plane setups off and repeated the download and install again with the same results. So I then figured that the SD card may be faulty eventhough it ran fine on my computer. Lo and behold everything worked like a charm with the new SD card. I did some research and there are a whole lot of issues with the SD cards that shipped with the radios, apparently Spektrum had a bad batch from whatever manufacturer they used. So if you have a similar problem, just go buy a new SD card. They`re cheap.

It's not the card Jean-Guy, it's you. You're cursed. Just a little bit cursed, could be worse.

I had no issue with mine. Of course I have the cheaper (non-black) version of DX9 ;-)

Amazing you can survive with the cheapie model. You don't have the $500 case either, do you? Not like Money-bags Malenfant! lol

Dave, I'm just glad you realized that all you need are two radios instead of one per plane... Way more cost effective my way and you only need to learn one radio!

Bite me! lol I'm a traitor to Futaba, but yup, we do need to downsize, and I've had a couple of radio related screw-ups the past year, not to mention all the running around trying to remember what radio powers what aircraft. I have to say, Futaba's concept of allowing the transmitter to bind with any receiver in the fleet, regardless of what aircraft is dialed up on the Tx, is dumb. Spektrum won't let you try to fly your Giant Aeromaster with the Tx set for your Ultra Sport, and take off with ailerons reversed. I need all the smart radio help I can get! Plus I'm pretty sure the 2000 MaH Lithium Tx pack will allow me to fly all my planes, all day, without having a low battery alarm going off. Ran into that a couple of times last year, when doing a pile of flying, and instructing, on a really busy flying day.
But, having said all that, I do not have the gold-plated case like yours, that makes waffles, and mixes drinks, and tucks you in at night. I'm so ashamed. .. . .

When you try the wireless buddy box on the dx9 Dave, your gonna get real selective on who you train, as in if they fly futaba, someone else can have them. lol
The wireless setup works with every spektrum transmitter right down to that little black box that comes with the indoor micros. Just touch any stick control and you instantly get control back. Amazing really, I've flown four or five year old kids at fun flies without any concern (other than them breaking the wing of my funcub. lol)
And when you program all your fleet into the radio (probably will take you all summer, lol) be sure to assign voice commands to your switches, particularly to any with odd mixes etc. Great feature, when I pick up a model I have't flown since last year I just throw a few switches and the sweet voiced english lady tells me where everything is and what it does.

COOL! I think I'll need a tutor for this radio! Now if only we could pry the 30 year old 72MHz radio's out of Vic's hands, and get him into the 21st century! lol
