Marc,
I have to agree with you. This was my first AZM and I thought that the crowd participation was actually low - but then I digged to find the notes from last year's meeting and there were only 14 participants last year. The link is probably easy to find if you know where to look but can otherwise take some searching (http://www.maac.ca/en/news_details.php?news_id=44).
There were reps from MAST, AVON, Northumberland, HEFA, Shearwater, HRCC, ASRCM and Saint John at the meeting. I understand the desire for next year's event to be in Moncton but it seems that Truro is a good all-round compromise to maintain the participation that is needed for a vibrant zone.
Some additional "sell" would help to introduce members to the various elements of the meeting.
All in all, I am happy to have gone and will be able to carry back some comments to members.
The meeting emphasized the importance of the newsletter for zone communications as well. More pressure for Al!
I agree that the rain was problematic on the return drive - slower trip, for sure.

There were a couple of us from Moncton present too, although I was expecting more. Suspect the weather changed their minds.
There was a lot of good info about how things work in the organization. Between supporting Regis and that, it was worth the trip.
Good seeing you guys again!

I guess the question of the day would be ..."was the motion to replace Regis valid..?"
I suppose I have to wait until the "minutes" are published to learn the answer.

Don't know if it was really valid, but it was voted on and soundly defeated.

I too was surprised that 30 was considered high number for Atlantic considering number of flyers in Atlantic
That being said geography likely has something to do with it but also flyer apathy to a certain extent
Most members just want to fly RC and not necessarily get involved with pleasures of MAAC (sarcastic tone here)
As an example, just setting next Zone meeting is a challenge - Moncton, Truro, Halifax, St John, Avon, Fredericton, Charlottetown, etc. You won't be able to satisfy everyone
That being said, you should make an attempt to attend the National meeting next spring in Halifax
It's clear to me that I need to better understand the process if I want MAAC to support our regional clubs the way it should
MAAC must be accountable to the membership and communications must be a two-way street
Rick Mercer type rant ended 😕

Thanks for providing the debrief on the Zone meeting for the club, Marc. I think you hit all the highlights. Thanks, Brian, for your take on it as well.
I too was surprised to hear that 30 attendees was a record, as I mistakenly expected the meeting to take place in a large hall with a hundred RCers in attendance. I intend to go to the national meeting in Halifax in April and would encourage all to try to take it in. The regional meeting was certainly a learning experience for me, and I expect the national one will be even more so.
Mary and I stayed over-night in Truro, so missed the driving in the crazy rain. Other than the wind, the drive on Sunday was nice.

I've been to quite a few zone meetings over the years, several in the same room actually and never have I seen any more than 10-15. Proxies were always necessary to get a quorum.
