Hi folks -
Just a friendly reminder as we begin the new season -
Shearwater RC Flyers Flight Operations Guidelines posted here and on club premises state following -
For the protection of all club members and for the pilot himself/herself -
Para 4 states - NO AIRCRAFT SHALL BE MAIDENED (test flown for first time) without first having been examined by another qualified pilot at the field. In addition, all aircraft being test-flown (maidened) shall require a spotter. Intent here is that two eyes are better than one. I've seen too many pilots take off and doing a quick control surface check only to find out that ailerons were reversed. A quick check by another pilot for a qualified pilot, will remove overlooked errors and may identify issues that could be hazardous to our members or the plane itself. Planes should not be maidened unless pilot and observer are 100% satisfied. Another qualified pilot/observer can be brought in if unsure. A maiden is described as a plane that has never flown before or an aircraft that has suffered significant damage and required reconstruction in part or in whole.
In addition, para 15 states - Taxiing of aircraft through the Pit area is NOT permitted unless aircraft is equipped with brakes. Aircraft should be taxied directly out "from" the edge of the taxiway or to edge of active runway until cleared to take off (see #8 and #9 in Flt Guidelines). This means you taxi your planes only when on the runway or flight line - ensuring no one is close or in front of the plane. If personnel are in front or in close proximity, the plane must be physically help on to (i.e. normally the tail) and kept under control. Plane should never be taxied to the flight line or table after a flight. Same for takeoff.
The above procedures is for the protection of all club members and guests as well as for members equipment and planes. The above should be simple to follow and are to be adhered to at all times
As a reminder, any club member witnessing a deviation from above or any other club guidelines should at a minimum, advise a present club executive and if not present, advise the member committing the deviation directly. In most cases, these are simply omissions and are not willful intent to disregard flight guidelines
Let's have a good year and keep it safe.
If club members want to discuss these guidelines, I'm more than willing to go over them
PS: When is spring coming?
