Hi guys,
As I sometimes do (and sometimes regret) , I paid for an airplane that was backordered and I now learn that it is on it's way!!... it is most probably more advanced that I should have for a glider but I really liked the scale look of it. It is a Volantex ASW28 2400mm.
When it arrives, it seems quite simple to put together... but my question is this:
My glider experience is with a Micro Calypso - hardly the same as a proper sized glider. I have slope soaring experience with my Hobbyzone Supercub, one time, at a paragliding meet when we used it as a wind dummy - I definitely understand the concepts of slope-soaring from being an intermediate paraglider pilot -- but RC-wise, I'm a bit nervous to take this glider to Lawrencetown etc., without guidance...
Would anyone be able to help me with it - get it balanced, etc and maiden it at the field someday this autumn>? I'm going to post this on the Avon site as well since I'm a member there as well.... also - maybe this is the wrong place -- is there a glider-leaning part of the club forum?
Any guidance would be lovely - no rush! it's not even here yet! And lots of powered flight to practice yet to do!
Does anyone have any experience with it? Are larger gliders a risky thing to try as a novice RC slope soarer -- should I get a Radian or something smaller first to train on? Anyway - hope to hear from someone! thanks a lot! :-)

Asif,
From all the glider pilots around that I know of, your best contact might be John O'Sullivan, a member of HEFA. He is heavy into Gliders (pun intended). There is not too much John does not know about gliders and flying them.
Sorry But I have never touched them. Hope this helps.

Asif; Sorry but I rarely look at the forum, and didn't see this post until now. We talked at the field this summer, not sure if you remember. I have and fly the same glider and have become quite familiar with it. I have not thermaled it, but have sloped it quite a bit. I really like the plane, it looks the part, but I found that my version of this glider is quite nose heavy, likely because of the giant motor in the nose. I have considerable weight on the tail to acquire the proper C of G, even with the battery as far back as it will go. Once adjusted and trimmed it flies quite well even in low wind conditions. The rudder is quite ineffective. But bank and yank seems to work just fine. I would be more than happy to help you out with it. I live about 10 minutes from the Larry Town slope and use any excuse at all to go down and fly. Regards Kevin Baker aka Scooterboy
