I dropped by Shearwater gym this afternoon to drop off paperwork for the club re-opening due to Covid-19 closure. While there I was able to talk to PSP and found out that at the moment....and unless things change significantly over the next month or so there will not be any indoor flying in the gym this winter. At the moment the gym is fully open for active Military and DND employees only. Even then there is gauntlet of procedures to follow to just get in the door. I may know more tomorrow as to when outdoor flying might resume but I'm pressing for the first week of Oct if possible.

Thank you for all your time and energy on this issue. We have lost so many great weekends of flying due to this virus. Some limited flying is better than none. Stay safe!

Update:
I received an email late this afternoon with more paperwork that is required to accompany the previous load. I'll try and see if I can get this completed for the first of next week. I don't know what impact on opening this will have but if a betting man I would say a delay!!
I can't believe the paperwork the military needs and the rules that will have to be followed at the field.
More to follow as things progress.

I'm sorry to say I'm still waiting for PSP to get back to me with answers to questions I had on the latest paperwork. I have 2 of the three forms completed (2 weeks ago) but can't finish the last letter to the Base Commander until PSP gets me the info I requested. It is very frustrating as this could all have been complete weeks ago. If this continues much longer there may not be any opening of the club this fall and we might have to wait until spring. Weather will determine that. I will keep pressing and get the paperwork in place.
The access key list expires in 3 weeks and I will be resubmitting that soon to have a new list in place if we can fly before snow arrives.
I'll keep everyone updated as things progress.

All,
I have received official confirmation that the club will not be opening for the remainder of the season. It all boils down to the Key. We are not allowed on DND Bases due to Covid-19 and in order to fly at the field we need access to draw Key 41 to unlock the gate to MacDonald's beach and the field. Until restrictions are lowered the club will remain closed. I'm hoping that things will change by next spring and we can open up to fly again.
Until then if anyone who has club planes or equipment stored for last winter cannot store them for this winter please let me know and I can pickup those items and store them here at my place.

I hope everyone is well ...I have today submitted all necessary paperwork/plan to get the club re-opened for flying this summer. With all the approvals and personal that have to review the paper work it will take probably 2 weeks or so before I get any reply/approval, that means April 2021 to reopen if all goes well. As I get any updates I will post here to let you all know what is happening. Of course there will be a long list of guidelines that must be followed and I will be making up a list that will be posted at the field when/if we get to open next month. I already have had signs made by PSP that are waiting for pickup and will need to hit them up for a sanitizing station.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Great new! I for one am looking forward to getting back to a life this year. I guess I had better get to the plane holder rings and weld them. Also the trainer is in good shape. Not sure about the battery.

I'm in the process of cycling all my receiver batteries to make sure they are good to go once I get any word on opening.

EFFECTIVE tomorrow 23 April 0800 HRM and surrounding communities are in full lockdown. so even if we get approval to open the club we won't be able to open until late May at the earliest if the lockdown doesn't continue beyond 20 May.

Thanks for the update Bill, I just checked the HEFA site and saw the post there.
Well on a better note the lockdown gives me another month to finish 3D printing my newest airplane.

Here is the latest on re-opening. Of course with the lockdown we remain closed. The paperwork I submitted made it all the way to the BComd's secretary and was rejected as the Memo was not in proper military format. Funny thing is I used the official military writing guide to format/write the memo. Apparently the Navy have their own version of the Military writing format . PSP fought that the format was correct but the Navy still rejected it. PSP is now re-writing all the clubs memos to the Navy's format. Once complete the memos will be resubmitted for BComd approval.
As things unfold I will update this thread.

As of yesterday 16 June I have emailed PSP to get any update on club opening and paperwork submission. With NS now in phase two of opening we could have up to 25 people at the field without social distancing. All I'm waiting on is the Military to approve my re-opening plan and we could be flying within a day or two. When I receive an answer to my inquiry I'll post the latest here.

Received a response today see below. So still waiting in Bcomd to review and approve reopening plan.
"The bcomd didn't review any during the most recent lockdown so it is currently sitting waiting for him to see it.
I'll inquire with management in Halifax to see if that can prompt anything on that side.
Thanks "
More to follow as I get updates

Well with the Military going to Green level of opening back up this week I hoping to here news on clubs reopening. If we can't open under green level then we would never be able to re-open. Let's keep happy thoughts and we'll see if I hear anything this week / maybe next.
