Just spent a very pleasant evening with Ron Stuart, we deconstructed the front end of the Avistar, and it's now about 90% rebuilt, new fuse sides of 1/8th Baltic birch have been spliced in, firewall and forward bulkheads are in, firewall we were able to clean up and re-use, the two ply bulkheads aft of that, we used as patterns for new ply ones. Just have to sheet the bottom of the fuse, and the front cockpit area, and then hook everything back up, apply some covering, and she'll be good to go. Ron got the engine clean as a whistle, so for some scrap ply, bit of glue, and left over covering material, she'll be flying again in no time.

Nice. Good lesson for all (Ron and Wayne), if you're going to do loops with a trainer, make sure there are enough elastic bands and that they are fresh

I think any further experimentation with loops can be deferred indefinitely. It's back to practicing approaches, low passes, landings and whatever else it takes to get the MAAC wings! Many thanks to Dave for generously sharing his evening, materials, expertise and good conversation. The Avistar should be re-named Phoenix!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_(mythology)This club rocks!

One should learn one's limitations, and those of one's aircraft first, young grasshopper. The Avistar fuse is fully rebuilt, and covered, I'm just doing the final fuel-proofing of the interior, and then I'll re-install the fuel tank, battery pack, receiver, engine and nose gear. I probably won't get it finished until tomorrow, but not bad for 2 evenings worth of work.

All done, Ron just has to put the battery and switch harness in to his liking, and she's ready for more adventure.
