Hi folks,
Been a long time since I've logged in and gone flying etc., but work gets in the way of life. Several years ago, there was a model rocketry meet in Shearwater that was a whole bunch of fun. Low and mid-power rockets only, it could possibly also include .049/electric 05 park flyers and some control line stuff. Or just rockets. Any interest? Would 12 Wing entertain such an idea?

A rocketry day would be great.
Some weeks ago I spoke with one of our members who would like to run another rocket day at Shearwater this year in support of a cub scout group. I indicated that I would be glad to help out.
We will spread the word about the date, once it is finalized, on this forum, so please stay tuned.

Myself and a few friends and their kids have built rockets and are looking for a place to launch them. If there is a rocket day would we be able to participate?

As long as it not a space shuttle and we're taking 500 ft or so, I'm sure we can coordinate/accommodate. How many launces are we looking at?
This would have to be a Sat or Sunday morning
Kevin - any thoughts? Any special requirements from base perspective?

I don't believe there would be any special requirements from our end other than the standard military flying schedule de-confliction if any. Rockets would be limited in altitude to around a max of 800' - 1000' due to air drome and retrieval area. The school kids a few weeks ago were launching up to 300' and we had perfect conditions for retrieving the rockets, some came back within 50' of the launch site while mine that went up around 800' landed about 500 yards away downwind. But it was a moderate windy day and I had a parachute recovery system where the kids were using streamers for their rockets.
We would need a few members of the club to help organize any event as Executive can't do it all. No wind or light wind from either north or south directions would be ideal for the rockets as it would give the maximum distance (10,000') for rocket recovery without having to go into any wooded areas.

Most of the rockets are less than 1000 ft. Mostly B and C size Estes rockets. I have a D rocket that might go a bit higher. I think the four of us and kids have less than 10 rockets. Bruce As long as it not a space shuttle and we're taking 500 ft or so, I'm sure we can coordinate/accommodate. How many launces are we looking at? Mailman,
That's perfect, as that is what we also fly, A,B,C and a few heavy rockets with D engines but the heavy ones can't get too high. Once we have a chance to talk this weekend at the field with members we'll see who is interested in running with the organizing and we'll see about a date and post back here.

All,
We are looking into holding a day for rockets. Nothing is nailed down yet but we are looking at a possible 29 Sept date with a backup of the 30th. If interested in attend a rocket day please post here on this thread so we can get a feeling for the numbers that will be attending.
More to follow as plans unfold.
