Hi folks - Ron and I had a discussion wrt tables while at the field. Aim would be to purchase 2-3 folding tables that the club could use (try them out). We would likely glue a small lip to prevent screws from rolling off. Also perhaps add a surface cross section(?) on table to serve as wheel chocks. Tables would be put away in the shed after each flying day. The folding table I had this morning was 48" (L) x 24" (W) and with selectable height (29" and 36"). 36" height was very comfortable while 29" height was also doable as most models are several inches off the table (I would guess 4+ inches) The table I have (see first link) has a cross bottom section which could be used to put sand bags on. While I bought mine at Costco - here is what it looks like (note the bottom cross member). Issue with this table it is small (48" x 24"). Cost is only $80.49 (tax included) Ideally a duplicate table but larger would be better (72" L x 30-36" W) with height of 29" or 36" That being said, I could not find any similar but larger. All larger tables I could come across was following tables Cdn Tire - Folding Table with Carry Handle, 6-ft - They are on sale by $20 this week ($59.99 vice $79.99 plus tax)
- Each cost is only $68.99 (tax included)
- Dimensions - 72" L x 29 5/8" W x 29 1/4" H
- Has a semi cross member (not sure how we could attach sand bags)
- Cdn Tire has a few other 72" tables but none with cross members
Home Depot - 6 ft. Centre Folding Table in White- Each cost is only $75.89 (tax included)
- Dimensions - 72" L x 30" W x 29" H
- Has NO cross member (not sure how we could attach sand bags)
- HD has a few other 72" tables but $100+ (none with bottom cross members)
Ron - Feel free to add below what you noted at Costo

There should be some commercial plastic building product out there that can be modified to make an edge on the tables. You don’t want wood as it will cause future problems. As far as an anchor point for the tables. Find the centre, make hole for a 1/4 inch carriage bolt. Bolt it down then figure some sort of chain to hang from bolt. Have a hook on end of chain to hook a sand bag to it. Sand bag would be out of way while working on the table. KEEP IT SIMPLE!

If you find pvc rain down spouts, they are ten feet long, and cut them lengthwise, that will give you forty feet of trim to attach to the sides of the tables. Or you might try home siding “J trim” to use as an edge on the tables. You can use low heat to bend both products around the corners of the tables. Just a thought!

Alum or plastic (likely cheaper) We would need to make sure length piece is in 2 pieces to enable table to fold. Need to find suitable table first though

Anyone know how we could fasten weights or sandbags to these tables with higher cross members? Thanks

I could do a poll?
Thoughts?

The money is already allocated for table repair/replacement, so no problem if we buy these. I have also collected $400 in dues since the AGM. so we have money. I see there are 15 in the Cole harbour store so they have lots.

I have received a response from Matt from PSP and they don't have any sandbags, other than the ones they use for the "Force Test" for military.
I have one or two crocus bags I found today that can be filled with sand. Otherwise we will need to shop around for sandbags.

EXCELLENT
Yes it would, we would need to anchor it to the tables via short strap(s)
Roughly 6 required for 3 tables
PS: Why did I not think of that?

ADDENDUM
If we use cement blocks we could easily use cheaper Cdn Tire tables
I'll go out at lunch tomorrow to pick them up

I think “Dollar Store” has inexpensive ratchet straps that can be used to connect the cement blocks to the tables. Just a thought.
