All,
If you haven't found a club to fly at for this summer Avon will be holding their Spring General meeting in 9 days on
Saturday April 22, 2023, at the Crossroads Restaurant, off exit 5 of Hwy 101 in Windsor. From 1:00 to 4:00 PM. They are open for flying this summer and are inviting flyers to join.
This will be a good time to see the membership of the club and make new friends and find out more info on the club. Quite a few of you are already members of Avon and have already received their president's email of the meeting.
This post is for all members of Shearwater that are not members of Avon.
On another note: This past Wednesday Kevin Campbell and myself talked to Carl Layden , our new Zone Director, he wanted to help us open our Porter's lake site........ That was Vic's winter lake flying on porter's lake. I had deactivated that location with MAAC a few months ago. But it gave Kevin and I a chance to talk to Carl. Mike Anderson (MAAC President) is putting together a document to explain what has happened with the loss of the exemption and what the plan is for the way forward. look for an email from Mike this spring. As for any new exemption we are looking at this fall/winter if one can be negotiated. 61 Clubs within (on) a controlled airspace/field are soon being looked at on a one at a time basis but don't anyone hold their breath. So based on what I have heard over the last few weeks Shearwater RC Club will be closed for the 2023 flying season and we'll see where we stand come spring 2024. For this season I suggest we all find another club willing to take us in.
Kevin
