Afternoon all, So While doing some general research I came accross something called the rotary drive system (RDS). Do any of you have any experience with this type of surface control system? It look very cool and neat, would give scale planes an awesome clean look. I am wondering about the longterm wear and pain vs gain of using the system. Here are some links I found. RDS ExplainedCheers John

Im fairly certain that John OSulluvan uses this technique on one of his slope soarers. Very neat and interesting way of controlling a surface. Very similar to the picture in your link as I remember seeing it.

I took a look, my 2 cents worth. I see multiple possible points of failure. More there are, more the chances are of failure. I also see potential for a lot of slop, which then causes flutter, and that causes a complete re-kitting (destruction) of the aircraft. I'd certainly want to test the hell out of the system on the ground, preferably using a mock-up, prior to putting into a plane. Knowing John, he's long since worked out any bugs, and is a meticulous builder. For a first time builder though, can't say I'd recommend this approach.
