From our Regional Director: Please forward to all members. Drone registration on its way globalnews.ca/video/2441170/drone-registration-on-its-way/ MAAC is involved in discussions with TC about this, the operations of conventional model aircraft stays the same as we have with the MAAC guidelines and the drones can be with us providing they follow our guidelines. More meetings are scheduled between TC and MAAC later on by the spring. Drones will have to register with TC but we will be required have an ID inside or outside our plane which is no big deal, good to have anyway in case you lose the airplane. I always have a sticker inside my planes with my information. In the US looks like everything will have to be registered More info will be available in the near future, hope it helps Regis

There used to be a MAAC and AMA requirements years ago to have your name and address inside the plane.
Surprised that in this day and age of liabilities this is no longer a requirement.
As long as there are clear definitions (something Transport Canada is notorious for NOT doing) about what constitute a drone and what constitutes an RC aircraft and which group is targeted by new regulations - one or both groups.
My easy definition would be anything not flying on an approved MAAC club/site or anything flying beyond line of sight (should NOT happen at a club).

Actually, MAAC does not support any flying beyond line of sight, and will not cover anyone who does. All FPV flying must happen with a spotter, and visual reference must be maintained at all times. Now, let us see what happens, if it's another money grab, where they want a fee for every aircraft registered, I can see a lot of club flyers throwing in the towel. We already have MAAC fees that are in my opinion, mostly supporting a paper magazine, and executive trips to Europe to discuss rules for competitions that aren't even in vogue in Canada anymore. The AMA almost went the way of the DO-DO in the 80s, and the new Sport Flyer's Association was created over similar issues. However, MAAC right now, is our only hope of representing our concerns to TC. Fingers crossed!
