According to my research there are three versions of the T6EXAP ( 72 MHz or a combo 72 MHz and FRSky compatible selectable or a 2.4 GHz) which version do you have. That will determine what buddy cable you may need. Unless you have the 2.4 GHz version it will be extremely rare to find a buddy cable and compatible transmitter around here.
I looked on eBay and they have a couple of the 72 MHz T6EXAP transmitters for sale as low as $60.00 plus shipping. Or you might try RC Canada.
I have never seen such messed up versions of the same Ver number of a Futaba Transmitter. It is as if they couldn't make up their mind which way to go as 2.4 GHz was coming on line.
Watch out for the buddy cable as they are not all compatible even if they connect. I have a "T6EX" as my primary radio and it took me three tries on eBay to get a cable that was compatible with my transmitters.

Interesting. Why does it have to be so complicated? I was at the Shearwater field Sunday gone, met some great folks and one gentlemen took me under his wing and got my plane in the air. "Fantastic" I learned a lot and now have a new addiction. I posted looking for a second radio and cable so when I go back to the field perhaps I will be able to fly with an instructor. I was communicating with a guy today that says he has a compatible radio and cable for 100.00 which I didn't think was too far out of the way? Going to have a look Wed or Thurs and if it is actually compatible, I think I will take it off his hands.

If that radio and cable work with your system that is a fair price. Sorry I missed you on Sunday but the Honey to do list got in the way.

Hi guys -
I flew the plane on Sunday. I just needed to adjust ailerons and the elevator. With ailerons trimmed as flaperons, and almost no throttle, it kept going up despite max down trim applied. Nexstar will need one more flight to make sure all adjustments we made worked - it was getting a little windy at the end and that could easily be done before your first flight.
Most trainers use 4 channels only (throttle, elevator, aileron, rudder). A fifth channel could be used for retracting landing gear, bomb drop, etc. For basic flight maneuvers, 4 channels is all that's needed. We flew the Nexstar using 4 channels on Sunday as the SAFE system was disabled. Not sure if SAFE system uses a 5th channel, I would have to read up on it (likely Nexstar instruction manual)
Playing devil's advocate, I'm not sure I would recommend spending a $100 on a 72 MGhz system. 90% of RC flyers now fly 2.4 Mghz (less interference) with either Spektrum or Futaba 2.4 radios having well over 70% (if not 85%) of the market.
My suggestion would be to buy a used DX6 (computerized 6 channel) or Dx5 (non computerized 5 channel radio) with DX6 being preferred option. The Nexstar trainer you have is a four channel aircraft - not sure how it was setup with the on-board SAFE system (if may require a fifth channel - so DX5 would be minimum). I could even give you an older Spektrum 4-5 channel receiver that would be compatible depending on radio
You could use your purchased radio as the Master and club instructor could loan you one of our spare trainer radios as the buddy box. We also could use one of the club's buddy cords at same time each time you come to fly.
Advantage of this solution: 1) Upgrades you from 72 MHZ (almost obsolete 80s technology) to newer 2.4 2) Cost would almost be the same and could potentially serve as your radio for next aircraft. 3) Provides a radio with many knowledgeable folks on the club for ease of setup (no offense to Kevin or Futaba) 4) Likely easier to resell DX6 radio once you've outgrown it (selling 72 Mghz 1-2 years from now will be like selling a car without backup camera in 2020 - can be done - just more challenging ;-)
Disadvantage - you would be unable to fly with a buddy box at another field as you would not have spare radio or cable
Food for thought.
PS: I have no dog in this fight - just providing options. Perhaps some of our newer flyers may want to jump in?

2nd PS: No need to rush out and get radio, we could fly our own trainers with club radios (Alpha 40 or Alpha 60) until you're setup with radios
I would also place a post in the WANTED section for DX5 or DX6, I think you may find someone willing to part with theirs

Thanks Marc,
I was not aware it was an old 72 MHz radio, I was thinking 2.4 GHz. I have several 72 MHz systems here (obsolete manufacturers) I can't even get rid of (Vic has all he can store).
You spektrum guys ....spektrum is OK especially for electrics but gas and glow engines planes Futaba is just fine, No offense Marc

Tractor... I have a Spektrum HP6DSM radio you can have . It uses a standard 1/8 male mono jack cable from Radio Shack for a buddy box . I will bring to field on next time . PS Spektrum is the best .

Tractor...I have a Spectrum radio you can have. PS Spektrum is the best . You see, these guys simply give away Spectrum gear AND likely listen to 80's music.....nuff said

Wow. I guess second radio purchase might be a little premature. Marc was a master setting up the plane and when he put it in the air I was excited. I am an impulse person and said to myself you need a second compatible radio. Perhaps I will wait on the purchase of the used Futaba,be a little more patient, and do a little more homework.

Something is wrong with your keyboard Ritchie. Marc. Been a bit quiet with flying but hope to get out to shearwater before season ends but like to drop in to the forum now and then Tractor. 2.4 is certainly the standard nowadays and I personally use both Futaba and Spectrum with no issues. Steve

BTW - impulse is good where RC is concerned
PS: I believe Richard spelled FUtaba correctly, but they were the radio of choice in the 80s and 90s
