Last weekend I had my trainer up for a shake down flight after an engine replacement on take off the plane screamed up into the sky at a rate un-commanded by me. Upon trying to bank left after take-off the plane did not respond. I quickly realized i did not have ailerons and immediately changed to rudder and elevator to turn and attempt a landing. it was sketchy but I got the plane down in one piece with nothing more than a nicked prop.
When I took a close look at the plane after I got it home the ailerons and all control surfaces were working fine....then I noticed the rudder twitching. come to find out after slaving in a new receiver the servo was intermittently shorting out as the volt meter I have installed on the plane was showing 5.1 volts then 4.8 and back to 5.1 as the servo twitched. whenever I held the rudder hard over the twitching would stop. when I pulled the servo out (replaced it) the volt meter stopped and stayed at 5.1v. I can't explain why I lost ailerons in flight but the problem was definitely the Rudder servo.
Point here is when your plane just doesn't seem to be acting right, listen to it (pun intended) and give it a good check over.
