All Members, current and former, of Shearwater RC Flyers SRCF have received their Site Operating Certificate (SOC) from MAAC on Wednesday 20 Sept and we have taken a couple days to digest the contents. We want to have a meeting in the next few days in order to brief everyone on the SOC and answer questions. Kevin Campbell and myself attended the MAAC AZM Saturday and briefed Carl Layden, MAAC Zone B Director on the club and our stance on the club’s continued existence. You may receive an email Blast from our zone director in a few days. With so many of you working folks we realized a meeting may be problematic. I’m suggesting a weekday evening 6pm or after or a weekend Sat/Sun. maybe Sunday morning during indoor flying session. Please email me with your preference and I will pick the timing that most of you can attend and let you know the date and time/location. Kevin and I have come up with a few limited options for the club’s continue existence but in short, the old de-activated runway is now closed to outdoor flying as it is not financially or logistically feasible under (DND/MAAC/TC rules).
The runway will have to be cleared of sheds and their contents before winter. The runway must be returned to the condition it was in 2013 when we stood up the club for the second time. I may already have a plan for the metal shed and will be offering the wooden one to PSP for the beach area. I have reached out to Matt at PSP for a meeting but have not heard back. We want to continue the indoor flying and the club may live on in that respect. I will have copies of all the documents MAAC Provided to us Plus the SOC for all to read at the meeting. Plus, I’m attaching them all to this email so you can read them over prior to our get together and so you can ask questions. MAAC Controlled Airspace Instructions 2023 ....pdf (723.96 KB) MPPD 27 - MAAC Manufacturer Declaration Te....docx (430.24 KB) Kevin Sec/Tres SRCF
UPdate on contacting Matt at PSP! Kevin Campbell and I ran into him at the indoor fly this morning and talked to him for 5-10 minutes explaining what is going on. We (SRCF Executive) will have a meeting this coming week sometime when Matt can check his calendar. If you didn't receive this email from me then I either don't have your email address or it has changed. in that case post here when you could be available for a club meeting as laid out above.

Our meeting with PSP today was postponed until next Friday. The club will continue but in another form, indoor will continue as is and we are looking for another field outside controlled airspace. More to follow after executive meeting with PSP next week.

Kevin C and I met with PSP staff this morning. We explained to them what has transpired with Transport Canada and MAAC over the past year. We also laid out what will /would be required to fly again on the old deactivated runway. Jason Price took a lot of notes and will have a talk with military personal and see what they can do. It might come down to Kevin and I sitting down with military higher ups and explain our situation again. The final nail in the coffin has not been hammering in YET, but the odds are not in our favour. We'll see what the military comes back with over the next few days/weeks. until then we will not remove the buildings on the old runway. I have extended the key access list for another 6 months in case we need until spring to remove the buildings. The indoor flying will continue over the winter with no end in site. we have the gym floor for the next 52 Sunday mornings.
Kevin contacted Maritime Hobbies this morning as John Hatt was a founding father of the HRCC club on the Beaverbank Rd to see what we can find out in regards to land owner and maybe relocating SRCF to that location. currently we can't contact anyone formerly associated with the club. All their emails and phone #s have changed. If the old de-activated runway falls thru we might be able to re-locate to Beaverbank rd location in UNCONTROLLED airspace. Kevin and I still need to do a recce of the location to see what would be needed to get the site operational. I have been told it is over grown with alders and in need of a lot of TLC.
More to follow as I get more info.

Hi Kevin,
Don Menchions used to be very active in the HRCC. He might know something about land ownership, etc. I was at the HRCC field out in Beaverbank last summer. It is still in pretty good shape, the sun shelter is still there. Runway is a bit bumpy (frost heaves) and has cracks, but I don't think it would require much work to be able to fly from it again. I used to go out there a lot in the late 90's. There is an email address for him listed on the ASRCM website, not sure if it is still current. Worth a try.

All,
Another short update.
We are still waiting on a reply from the military and PSP from our meeting two weeks ago. Once we get a response we'll see about have a meeting for all interested. Right now weekday evenings are the most popular choice for any such meeting. I'm thinking the gym conference room will be the site for the meeting as it is accessible to everyone and I would have no problem booking it.

Kevin, with the way the weather is going, and the speed psp reacts, maybe we could do it some Sunday at or after the indoor.

Well with your reply the votes for a meeting are now about 50/50 so we'll see once we get a response from PSP on how they are making out with the military.
in the meantime I did a real quick Recce of the old HRCC site here are a couple pics.
I could fly my planes there as is but the area does need a lot of attention. Paved area is 10 paces wide by 140 paces long.

They are way too large to post here.

Wow! The Beaverbank site does look good! Once you have secured the site and have permission to clean up the area, please add me to the cleanup crew. I have a chainsaw and a gas brushcutter/whipper snipper and safety gear that I can use, if warranted. Ed Wood
