The email quoted below was sent out to all current and former SRCF members that I still have email addresses for earlier this week. Best to read that first then continue on here. Since that email we have met with the last HRCC member who still flys at the old HRCC site and we (Kevin Campbell and I ) had a great talk. The meeting with military personnel did not happen as PSP staff did not arrange the meeting for today. We will be holding a meeting with all interested that can attend shortly, either before or after the holidays most likely on a Sunday morning at the Shearwater gym (0900-1200) and we will explain all that has happened in detail and answer all questions you may have. The main points of concern for the new field are BUGS! and security of the site. Mosquitoes, black flies and ticks will be a problem for the summer months and ATV'ers /hunters might be an issue. the upper STEEL gate was removed (AKA Stolen) and probably discarded some where close (based on old photos it can't be far, too large and heavy) I'll do a search with my drone the next time I can get out there to locate it.
This location will be good for all but large jets, once we get the alders and trees trimmed back maybe light jets could fly there. There will be a lot of maintenance required to get the field up to a good standard.
That's all for now.

All current and former SRCF members,
Kevin Campbell and I have been actively seeking a solution to the shutdown of the old de-activated runway for outdoor flying. We are still trying to get a meeting this coming week with the military to see what can be worked out to allow to continue to fly on the old runway but my outlook on this is not good. HOWEVER, on another note we have sourced an alternate location that will allow us to fly small and medium sized planes up to but not jets. Kevin and I have contacted the owner of the old Halifax RC club (HRCC) land and he is more than willing to allow us to fly at that location. We will be doing a walk thru with him on what we plan on doing to the location sometime soon. We have visited the site and found that it has been maintained by one last member of the old HRCC club, WHO STILL flies there. We have arranged a meeting to discuss our intentions with him later this coming week. More to follow by Christmas, but it is looking like we will have a spot to fly in the spring.
Now here is the surprise. If this all unfolds as we foresee the club will NOT be a MAAC club NOR a Military club. No longer being a DND club there will not be any restriction on numbers, only requirement will be to fly under Transport Canada rules and enjoy the sport. The site is in UNcontrolled airspace! We have thrown several new names for the club on the table and currently “Beaver bank Flyers” has stuck as the new name, to be confirmed at an initial meeting of members. There will be a lot of maintenance required in the first year we open; ie patching pavement/cutting back alders and trees, gravel on driveway etc., so if you want to fly there some volunteer work will be needed. One issue we know of will be black flies /mosquitoes and Ticks! We are looking at solutions but everyone will need their own plan and PPE to deal with those pests. Club fees /dues will be needed to cover cost of the maintenance but depending on numbers may be minimal, more on that in the spring. Address of the field is 4090 Beaver bank rd. it is exactly 20km out the Beaver bank rd. from the intersection with Sackville drive. Have a look on google maps as you can drive right by it without knowing it unless you know where to stop.
More to follow when there is an update."
