I picked up the hobbyking clone cmp fw190. It is a sport scale model, but too sport, not enough scale. Price was right :-) I adjusted the rectangle rudder to a more scale outline. I modded the H-stab for the elevator balance and fixed the ends. Next will be fixing wingtips and control surfaces. M

Great way to get going on a project, taking an ARF, and sprucing it up! What's the power going to be?

26cc rcfg gasser. Thing about arfs, you can 'see' the end results without all the building involved. Keeps you motivated if you are not a builder.

nothing, besides the fact that you can't seen to put the right markings on them. Dave should get you a picture book LOL.
Marc, can't wait to see it, any scheme but pip's priller's would be good (I've got mine done in his)

I've got a ton of info on the 190, let me know if you'd like to borrow any of the books.

I have finished modding the tail. Needs covering.
Took a closer look at the wing. All wrong. Wingtip wrong shape, leading edge has the wrong tapper, and no dogtooth at the root leading edge. Plus the strip aileron and flap. I will reshape the wingtip and make the flaps into split flaps, plus add the dogtooth. Still need to work out the details though

Let me know if you need to borrow the TF or Pica plans, they show scale flaps and ailerons, linkages, hinging, etc. And the scale wing tips!

I have the Platt plans. It will be a sport scale model so not worring too much about precise details. just want it to look right on the flyby. Can't decide on a colour scheme now. After flying the jug I found the camo working, so on a cloudy day it will be hard to tell top and bottom at a distance. The fw190 I like looks good but all the grey makes it a silhouette at any distance so will not be good for cloudy or early morning flying. Thinking on an Eastern front winter/spring theme now.

Pink and yellow would stand out fairly well in any conditions
Ask Kevin, he may have spare paint. ;-)

I convinced my boss to give me the afternoon off :^} I started painting the plane. I got the base coat down last week so I needed the final coat and mottleing on the sides. The mottling failed. It started to slit out blobs and could not really fix it to my satisfsction. Only good thing is I know in theatre the used brushes to 'mottle' so it is scale-ish but still don't like the look. Then adding the theatre yellow, it was getting cold and so In rushed and created runs in the tail :-(. I had a base coat on the cowl and the 2nd coat that I applied today caused the aligator skin. Going to have to sand it down...

I did some more work on Sunday and have the markings on and checked for balance. This needs almost 2 pounds of lead in the nose... I just bought a 1/32 16inx46in sheet of lead. It would have cost more if I wanted a smaller section. so, now I have lots of lead for other projects and shop weights.

You can never have too much lead if you're building warbirds marc. And, please ignore Kevin's color scheme suggestions, I think he's spent too many hours inside sea king's with solvent's.

One trick for the FW is to use a large heavy spinner nut, underneath the spinner. Won't totally solve the issue, but will help some, and bring down the idle a bit.

A prop hub would not be enough and would not work with my spinner. I attached an aluminium bracket to the engine mount as support and afixed the lead to it.

Maiden done today in Milford. Looks like a great flyer. Breezy but tried to test the stall, it just flew on slowly loosing alt :^} With the headwind it still floated in for landings.
Going to have some fun with this plane.

On the maiden it looked like Marc had been flying it for years, Absolutely no bad habits and very nice power and presence in the sky! Some photos of the maiden on out website. www.asrcm.ns.ca
