Looks to be a good start, but you are missing the empty beer cans and saw dust on the floor...

I'm coughing on balsa dust now and the beer can is in the other Garage. I keep a clean work area unlike another builder that can't be bothered to clean unless he's moving out.

That shop is way too clean. I can come over and deal with that if you'd like!

Next time I make it out to the field I'll be shipping out the BBQ and lawn Mower in order to get even more room in that work shop !! Being able to walk around the table is a joy and I'll need it when it comes time for the 12' telemaster.

Looking good, have you picked a colour scheme yet? While waiting all day Thurs for the cable guy, who didn't show, and then again this AM, I managed to build an 8 foot workbench in the shop, get a pile of stuff unpacked, and organized. I've christened the new shop, started last night on my Ultra Sport 60! If I could find my camera, lol, Í'd take some pics!

Looking good so far. But I can't tell what type of foam you are using for the build,.doesn't look like depron or epo :-)

I think it's a special wood grained foam!

This doesn't use foam, it's one of those new fangled planes that has two left Wings.....you know the kind that Coyote builds ;D

Left and Right wings are highly overrated. I've got the fuse, tail section done on the Ultra Sport, and 1/2 a wing almost done. If anyone's looking for an amazing sport plane, that goes together fast, the Ultra Sport 60 is the one!

Well the two left wings are now forming one wing. and I'm ready for fiber-glassing the center section. Here is where I lack experience and could use a little advice from you fiberglass know-it-alls. The instructions want me to lay the cloth on the wing and begin from the center to apply thin CA working my way out 1/2 " past the width of the cloth. I remember Dave mentioning using (I believe WELDBOND ) to glass his planes. Are there any other glues that could be used to adhere the glass to the wing and be just as strong??

Go with the thin ca, unless you've got finishing resin, it's like epoxy but really thin. For the CA, have a plastic squeegee ready, run some ca on, and then wipe, to ensure the cloth sticks firmly to the wood. water based varnish will also work fine, you can brush on a coat, lay on the cloth, squeegee, then brush on a top coat. Let dry 15 mins or so, and then brush another coat on. If the cloth is fairly thick though, getting it to stick to the wood takes a bit more work.

Question - is the purpose of glassing to make fuselage stronger than just using heat covering or is the glassing to prepare aircraft prior to paint job.

Question - is the purpose of glassing to make fuselage stronger than just using heat covering or is the glassing to prepare aircraft prior to paint job. It's to reinforce the wing root area due to high stress loads at that location.

Well the Wing is finished for now and set aside until it is time for servo and covering. On to the Fuse!! Boy you have to watch the instructions !!! My first boo boo was today. The top and bottom plate of this airplane are cut at an angle to allow for the engine 2 deg offset. if you install the ply wood plates upside down you negate the offset and the firewall mounts square to the fuse. Well what a job to "rip" off the top and bottom plywood plates. But I did it without destroying them The instructions didn't mention a single thing about this. I would post pics but it is raining to darn hard to run back out to the Garage so pictures will have to wait for another day. And the build continues!!

Most wings call for glass tape at the center section. Assuming the spar brace is solid enough, and the wing sheeting is properly adhered to the ribs, the tape is of questionable value. Some feel it's essential, while others argue that it creates two points, on the outer edges, where the strong glass meets up with weaker sheeting, thus creating stress points and increasing the risk of failure. Without a ton of research, it's a bit of a toss up. As for the firewall, glad to hear it worked out. Other option would have been to leave it, and simply shim the mount itself, with washers. Works great.

Works great. I wanted to be traditional in the build so I used the Thin CA and adhered the fiberglass to the wing. As for the firewall I could not leave it the way it was, as it would be weak and a possible failure point. So I literary "ripped" it apart and did it right!

Good man. Ready to fly for the weekend? I hope to get the test runs done on the Saito 150 on my Decathelon, if it's not perfect, I've got another one I can swap out, and fly that this weekend, along with the Ultra Sport 60, the F-4, and should have new monokote on the Somethin Extra!
